The past two weeks have been A LOT. I had to take a brief break from social media and I took a brief break from blogging too. With our nation marching to end police brutality, blogging about my latest skincare purchase seemed foolish. One of the main reasons I began blogging is because I believed that there was a lack of black bloggers in the lifestyle space. The bloggers I saw brands working with were all white. Accordingly, I assumed blogging was an arena that black women had yet to venture into. I soon realized there are A LOT of black lifestyle bloggers, they just don’t get the same opportunities as their white counter parts.
While I don’t think black bloggers should get special opportunities JUST because they are black. I do think black bloggers have different experiences and offer unique perspectives. I also know that at at time like this, it is SO important to expose ourselves to people who have different experiences and embrace those differences. For that reason, I need to keep blogging. I also think I need to highlight black women who are doing the same. So in that spirit, this week I’m sharing some of my favorite black bloggers. I think you’ll love them just as much as I do.
Asiyami Gold: For fabulous fashion and photos that leave you breathless Asiyami Gold is the place to go. I love everything about this blog. Her dreamy pictures make me want to spend the rest of my days traveling. Read about her recent trip to Bermuda and see all her the beautiful pictures here.
Lemon-Love: If you’re looking for a unfiltered look into love, life, marriage, and friendship Lemon-Love is the place to find it. Jasmin has created a space for women to talk about things that truly matter. This post on being black in America and how to be an ally is timely and poignant.
B-Werd: The B-Werd is where I go to be inspired. Blogging and working a 9-5 can be difficult but Courtney makes it look easy. She has so many tips, tricks, and words of wisdom for women who are trying to make a career out of blogging. If you’ve been thinking about starting your own blog she has a ton of resources to help you get started.
Imprint of Mhykee G: I’ve been following Mhykee on instagram for YEARS and was so excited when she started her own blog. At Imprint of Mhykee G she discusses her family, her spiritual journey, and so much more. Recently she wrote about how she stops racism from changing her heart. It’s a must read and you can find it here.
Shay Moné: Fashion, travel, and design, Shay Moné, has it all. My absolute favorite thing about this blog is being able to see how Shay balances it all while being a mom of three. Check out this post to see why she’s been dressing up once a week during quarantine.
