If you’ve been following this blog for a while you know I’m a skincare junkie. Beauty brands are constantly developing innovative products in gorgeous packaging and I want to try them all. But, I haven’t always been this way. In my twenties I was the girl who went to sleep in a full face of makeup. Whatever lotion I put on my body also went on my face lol. And, I don’t think I even owned an SPF.
As I got older (and fine lines started to appear on my face) I got serious about skincare. I specially wanted to develop a skincare routine that would keep my skin looking healthy and young. Although I only celebrated my thirtieth birthday a few months ago, my skincare routine looks drastically different than it did in my twenties. I believe skincare in your thirties should prioritize sun protection, target trouble spots, and incorporate on anti-aging products.
If you want to know the five things I changed my skincare routine since I turned thirty keep reading. Please note that post does contain affiliate links. Clicking on a link will cost you nothing. But, I may earn a small commission if you purchase something with my link.
Target my Trouble Spots : In the past my skincare routine only had two components clean and hydrate. Now, I’m more in tune with my problem areas and I’m actively seeking to improve them. I personally experience enlarged pores, excess sebum, dark spots and fine lines. As a result, my skincare routine revolves around addressing those specific issues. The SkincareAddiction Reddit has been an AMAZING resource to target my skincare issues.
Purchased a Cleanser : I’m a little embarrassed to admit this but I didn’t purchase an actual cleanser until I was in my late 20’s. Yep. I was that girl who used her body wash on her face. While body wash on your face it’s not a total skincare sin, there are so many things that are better. I don’t believe spending a lot of money on clenser, after all you just wash it off but, I do think you should spend some money on a dedicated cleaner. Right now I’m loving VERSED’s Wash it Out Gel Cleanser, it’s inexpensive and effective. If you’re looking to splurge check out Tatcha’s Rice Polish, I wrote all about it here).
Added a Retinol to my Routine : Retinoids are used to combat hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, and reduce the appearance of pores. I’m still learning all the things Retinol/Retinoid related (and recovering from the dreaded Retinol Purge). But I do know Retinols are a must for “aging skin.” I recently started using PRO Strength Retinoid Peptide Serum but I think it’s a little too soon to comment on my results.
Wear SPF Daily : If you only take one thing from this blog post please make it this. Wearing SPF daily can reduce and (even reverse!) signs of premature aging, lower your risk for skin cancer, reduce dark spots and improve texture. Wearing SPF daily is especially important when you’re using products with retinol in them. One of the easiest ways to incorporate SPF into your daily routine is by using a moisturizer with SPF. I currently use Origins Plantscription Anti Aging Cream daily. But if you’re looking for a stand alone SPF, I recommend the Sun Silk Drops it can be layered over your moisturizer or mixed into your foundation.
Seek Professional Intervention When Necessary : Although there are many high quality skincare products on the market, for some issues consulting a professional is best. If you find yourself dealing with deep lines, chronic acne, or any other issue you can’t seem to solve yourself consider meeting with a dermatologist. I recently saw a professional to discuss dark spots I’ve had for yearsss and I’m hoping her advice will help me resolve them quickly.
